The Drinkable Book

Hi again,

Some people don’t have fresh drinking water to drink, but if they drink dirty water they will possibly pass away because of the disease in the water or they get very sick. This awesome invention, ‘the Drinkable Book’, solves the problem of people dying from contaminated water.

To find out more about, ‘The Drinkable Book’, watch the video below!

Production

Hi again,

On Thursday the 29th of October, St Luke’s school held a production at the beason centre about fairytales. In more detail the story was about puff the magic dragon looking for a tale for him to belong in. He had to go to over 5 stories before he felt like he was wanted. The fairy tales the each class preformed was:

Prep K- Goldilocks

Prep S- The 3 little pigs

Junior KF- Aladdin

Junior B- The little Mermaid

Middle V- Little Red Riding Hood

Middle C- Snow White

Senior G- Cinderella

Senior S- Rapunzel

And last but not least Senior MY- Sleeping beauty.

My class did Sleeping Beauty. Every class did one dancing song and a song that they danced and singed to. The two songs that we had was classic by MKTO and hey now be Hilary Duff. Luckily I got to play a part in the production as an ugly step sister from Cinderella, with my twin sister being the other step sister. I think that all of the actors did a great job and that everyone tried they’re best.

It was a great night!!

Saving The Orangutans

Hi again,

Orangutang’s, reddish-brown fuzzy mammals and their habitat are disappearing all over Indonesia and Malaysia. The numbers of orangutang’s are decreasing rapidly and are a species we need to protect. We need to stop cutting down the orangutang’s home just so we can get things that we want like paper, palm oil, cerorangutan_640eal boxes, crayons and much more. Some people are even hunting them for food and decoration and secretly giving their bones to souvenir shops. Mother Orangutang’s are even getting killed so that their babies can be sold as pets, but most of them die without the support of its mother anyway. In 2007
the Government of Indonesia estimated a total population of 61,234 Orangutang’s and now there are 41,000. In the early 2,000’s the Orangutang’s habitat has decreased because of forest fires and logging.

If we don’t act now, the Orangutang’s could be gone quicker than you know it!

Polar Bears in the Arctic Circle

Hi again,

A reporter named Margaret Williams has been uncovering the story about the Polar Bears and their habitat.

The Polar Bears are vanishing all over the Arctic Circle because of climate change and the burning of oil, gas and coal. The Polar Bears can’t live on land because of their diet
(the ice seal) so we need to stop the ice from melting. The Polar Bears have now been forced to be listed as an endangered species. If we don’t begin to take action and stop burning oil, gas and coal and start using renewable energy 2/3 of the Polar Bear population will disappear in less than two decades. This devastating problem is the greatest change to our environment. Some people think that the ice is melting is a good idea but if we don’t change their minds, the Polar Bears could be in big danger.

The Polar Bears are a great symbol of what is happening to our world!

How Baboons Have Adapted to Change

Hi again,

In the grasslands of Kenya there has been an amazing discovery about the Olive Baboon.

An anthropologist has been studding the baboons for 42 years and say that that is not
enough time to see the baboons natural habits.  The baboons have been suffering due to the human population doubling and climate and environmental change. The baboons then had to readjust their lifestyle when they changed their habitat. They then also had to change their diet to the prickly pear.
While other animals suffered the consequences by eating the fruit like mouth and gut ulcers and internal bleeding caused by the hairs on the fruit the baboons knew how to cope. The baboons rub the prickly pear in the dirt to get the hairs off and in the dry season the males would squeeze the juice out of the fruit and eat the skin after. Since they changed their diet to the prickly pear they have become healthier.

The Olive Baboon is such a smart animal!

Pluto- See, Think, Wonder

Hi again,

Today we watched a video about NASA sending a spacecraft which is the size of a piano, called ‘New Horizons’. They sent it into space for a mission to take photos of the smallest planet in out solar system…….. PLUTO!!!

SEE

In this video I saw different photos of Pluto and all of the craters and ice on it.

THINK

When I saw this video I was thinking about how long it took to make the ‘New Horizon’.

LEARN

I learnt that Pluto was discovered in 1930 by an American astronomer named Clard Tombow.

WONDER

By watching this video I now wonder how long it took to make the spacecraft, ‘New Horizon’.

SURPRISING

The main thing that I found surprising was that if we drove all of the way from earth to Pluto it would take us 6,000 years.

FEEL

This story made me feel amazed that this little spacecraft has only taken 9 years to travel all the way up to Pluto.

Holidays

Hi again,

On the holidays I did so many amazing thing and i can wait to tell you about 3 of them. the 3 things I will be talking to you about is glow in the dark mini golf, the wave pool and the movies!

GLOW IN THE DARK MINI GOLF

In the first week of the school holidays I went glow in the dark mini golfing with my nan, brother and sister. First we went on the tram all the way into the city and got off the tram at an outdoor shopping centre. We stopped and had lunch at the groove train. I had pizza and chips. Next we headed off to the glow in the dark mini golf centre. When we walked in, we chose our golf club and our golf ball. We walked into a room where the first golf hole was. It was soooo dark and our clothes and golf balls were glowing. There was 17 holes and they were divided into 6 different areas. The different areas were the rocky beach, Melbourne city, under the ocean, the MCG, the rainforest and the Aussie outback. Just my luck I came last. Then we went to a lolly shop that had the most amazing things ever. (I got sour jellybean’s). Then we headed back home. The image is one of the walls in the under the ocean area.

WAVE POOL

In the second week of the school holidays I went to the wave pool with my 2 cousins and my brother and sister. The first thing we did when we got there was go and jump in the wave pool. Then we had some lunch, we had hot dogs and chips. After we had finished lunch we play marko-polo in the smaller pool. Next we went on the inflatable obstacle coarse I completed it 2 times but then I also fell off twice. the wave pool was so much fun and I cant wait to go next school holidays.

THE MOVIES

Last but not least I went to the movies with my nan, brother and sister, (as you can tell I do a lot of things with them). We saw inside out. This movie was so cool and my favourite character was sadness. I would rate this movie a 9/10.  If you have seen inside out please comment and let me know what you would rate it and who you favourite character was.

That was what I did on my holidays, let me know what you did on yours!

Punctuation

Punctuation is very important. There are many uses of punctuation. An example of using punctuation is when you are asking a person something. The punctuation you will be using for this sentence is a question mark, for example, ‘What will you be doing today?’ Another example is when you are pausing or taking a break in a sentence. You will be using commas, for instance, ‘Today I will be doing Italian, sport, Positive ed and doing my home work.’ More examples are when you are talking to someone. You will need to use talking marks or quotation marks. ‘I am very tired.’ said Marcuse. ‘Me too.’ exclaimed Emily.

Some rules when you are using apostrophes are to use it to show ownership. You can show ownership to a noun by adding an apostrophe and then simply adding the letter S. Examples of adding an apostrophe to form a contraction is…..

  • I’m (I am)
  • don’t ( do not)
  • who’s (who is)

Those are just some things about punctuation. There is so much more to discover!
